The job of a zoo veterinarian consists of zoo animal medicine, management, husbandry, animal transport, contraception, quarantine, scientific research, darting, breeding programs, surgery, lab work, population management, conservation etc.

In the Netherlands Marloes treated mammals (i.a. elephants, giraffes, oryx, babary sheep, donkeys, primates, impala, sloths, cattle, otters, wolves, hyena), reptiles (lizards, tortoises and snakes) and birds (i.a. Japanese Nighingale, peacock, golden pheasant, flamingo, psittacines).

In Paramaribo Zoo Eva treats mainly native species like jaguars, ocelots, otters, primates, tapirs, giant anteaters, caiman, tortoises, snakes, psittacines and harpy eagles. The zoo also accommodates some domestic animals like donkeys, goats, ducks and rabbits.
