About us

This is us, Eva and Marloes.

We are both veterinarians. We prefer to work with wildlife, because:

1. Wild animals are globally affected by human activities like poaching, hunting, urbanisation, deforestation and wildlife trade. We feel responsible to protect them against such anthropomorphic threats and safeguard their wellbeing.

2. In the last 50 years, more than half of world’s wildlife has been lost. Species extinction happens 1,000 times faster because of humans. This enormous decrease in biodiversity causes dramatic problems in the health of human, animals and nature. We would like to contribute in enhancing the planetary health by protecting wildlife and prevent disease transmission.

3. We can make a difference. As vets, we are allowed to sedate wildlife, to perform physical examination, to give treatment and prevent them from getting sick, to transport them to a safer place, to assist in reproduction and to help them survive.

Eva was born in Uruguay, studied in Belgium and the Netherlands, worked in Tanzania and now lives in Suriname. She works at the Paramaribo Zoo, the Green Heritage Fund (rescue centre for sloths and anteaters), the animal shelter and a small animal practice. She is project manager in a spider monkey reintroduction programme. In the meantime she studies the postgraduate degree programme in Conservation Medicine at the University of Edinburgh.
